Blackburn Rovers, Rotherham United and Wigan Athletic have all started talks with Scunthorpe United’s Stephen Dawson according to a report from Page 15 of the Goals Pullout in May 14th’s edition of The Sun on Sunday.
Scunthorpe may have suffered disappointment at the end of the season after losing to Millwall in the Sky Bet League One play-off semi-finals, but they will have been happy with this season. Instead of the mid-table finish many expected for them, they were fighting for a place in the automatic promotion spots before losing out on 2nd place to Bolton Wanderers and being forced to play in the end of season lottery.
They were hoping to keep all the key parts of their squad so they could go again next season but already that dream seems to be in tatters. Their club captain Stephen Dawson is out of contract this summer and he has turned down a new deal, meaning it is very likely that he is on his way out of Glanford Park this summer.
And this has attracted the attention of teams that are needing some League One experience for next season. Blackburn, Rotherham and Wigan were all relegated from the Sky Bet Championship this season and will be hoping to make a swift return. With there only being a small list of teams that got promoted back to the second tier at the first time of asking, all of them are looking for League One experience which will help them on their way. With Dawson pretty much being a veteran at this level for several different teams, they believe he would be the ideal man and all three teams have started talks with him.
