Top 50 Players of the EFL – 35th: Jackson Irvine (Burton Albion)

Burton Albion midfielder Jackson Irvine has been voted by you as the 35th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Irvine is the 35th best player in the Football League.

When the Brewers shockingly got promoted to the Sky Bet Championship, they knew they needed to splash out for the first time in their lives to make sure their stay in this league wasn’t a temporary one. So Burton decided to spend big and sign Irvine from Scottish side Ross County for £330K, a club record fee. Even though that is very little to other clubs in the Championship, for Burton it was a huge outlay and it meant that there was a lot of pressure on Irvine’s shoulders to perform.

Yet no matter what expectation you had for Irvine before the season, he smashed them. The 24-year-old played a starring role as Burton managed to stay in the Championship with them rarely dropping into the relegation zone. One of his greatest contributions though would not be in midfield but in attack, as he would end up scoring ten goals for Burton, beating their strikers to be the club’s top goalscorer.

Now though Irvine will be looking to the future as Burton hope to continue to establish themselves in the Championship and make sure that they end up part of the furniture by the end of next season.
