Brighton and Hove Albion in race to sign veteran goalkeeper

Brighton and Hove Albion are one of three teams interested in signing Stoke City’s Lee Grant according to a report from Page 51 of the May 14th edition of The Sunday People.

It seemed like the 34-year-old’s goalkeeper’s career was starting to come to a close when he ended up behind Scott Carson in the pecking order at Derby County. However he would end up going on loan to Premier League side Stoke City last summer and he would go on a great run of form with pundits praising him for a string of fantastic performances. They would then sign him on a permanent deal in the January transfer window.

However even though he has only been on a contract with Stoke since the start of the year, Grant may be set to leave with plenty of teams being interested. Already established Premier League sides such as Crystal Palace and Watford are looking to sign Grant as well as Brighton following their promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

They have their own goalkeeper problems as while current number one David Stockdale is established in the position, he may be set to leave in the summer. His contract is set to expire in the summer and there has currently been no resolution to try and get him a longer one. While it is still likely he will pen a deal with Brighton, the club are looking into potential replacements and with Grant playing well in the first half of the season, they see him as a steady pair of hands at the back.
