Forest takeover expected to be completed this week

The proposed takeover of Sky Bet Championship club Nottingham Forest by Greek shipowner Evangelos Marinakis is finally expected to be concluded this week.

The Nottingham Post have reported that the takeover deal is 99% complete with just English Football League approval preventing completion.

Unpopular current Kuwaiti owner Fawaz Al-Hasawi has said his goodbyes to everyone at the club and it is now hoped that the takeover deal will finally be completed later this week.

Founder and Chairman of Capital Maritime & Trading Corp Marinakis previously tried to purchase a majority stake in Nottingham Forest last summer but his takeover bid failed to reach completion after the 49-year-old did not pass the English Football League’s fit and proper owner’s test.

It is understood that the English Football League are now likely to approve Marinakis’ second takeover attempt and Forest should find themselves operating under a new owner before the weekend.

The Reds face a crucial summer of rebuilding after narrowly avoiding relegation to Sky Bet League One on the final day of the season. In Mark Warburton, Forest have a manager who can turn the club’s fortunes around and the fresh investment is required as soon as possible to allow the summer recruitment project to commence.
