Dielna, Sheffield Wednesday defender being tracked by Sunderland

Sheffield Wednesday defender being tracked by Sunderland

Sheffield Wednesday’s Claude Dielna is being tracked by Sunderland as well as a number of other European clubs according to a report from French website Foot Mercato.

The 29-year-old defender initially signed for the Owls back in 2014 and while he was a regular for them after first signing for the club, he soon found himself on the edge of the squad. Like many players in the team over the last few years, he lost out following the investment put into the playing squad by new owner Dejphon Chansiri and dropped down the pecking order as new defenders arrived at the club.

He was told earlier in the year that he could leave the club and he soon did that, though only on a temporary deal. He joined Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest on loan and has been a success there, though that spell is soon coming to an end and with his contract at Wednesday set to expire in the summer, it seems like he will have to find a new home.

But it appears that Dielna will have no problem finding a new club as plenty of teams are interested in signing him. From the continent Greek giants Olympiakos and Turkish side Fenerbahce are interested, but most shockingly this report says that Sunderland may make a move for him. They are set to lose their best defender Lamine Kone following their relegation from the Premier League and are looking for a replacement, with Dielna being an unlikely name to come up.
