Former Leeds United hero signs for League One Bury

Bury Football club have today (May 12) confirmed the signing of striker Jermaine Beckford.

Beckford was available on a free transfer following his release from Sky Bet Championship side Preston.

The striker is a proven player in the third tier, having helped both Leeds United and Preston North End achieve promotion from Sky Bet League One.

And he will hope to do the same with Bury, having agreed a two year deal at Gigg Lane.

Speaking to the official Bury website, Lee Clark said: “Thankfully we got in very quickly when we heard that Jermaine had been released by Preston.  This shows our intent and I have no doubt that there will be a few disappointed Championship and League One clubs once they hear the news that we have secured his signature.”

“For us to get Jermaine over the line and make him our first summer signing, shows our intent and what we are trying to do.  I’m absolutely delighted to get him in and it’s a credit to the Chairman who has got us over the line in getting this deal done so early in the summer.”
Beckford also commented on the deal.
He said: “I’m just so excited about being given the chance to play football and the vision that has been shown to me by the manager and the chairman just blew my mind.”
I’m excited about getting involved and helping this club get to the next level.  The motivation for me to come to Bury is the overall project that the chairman and manager have explained to me.  I’m excited to be a part of it and just want to get going as soon as we can.”
