QPR goalkeeper Alex Smithies has been voted by you as the 44th best player in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Smithies is the 44th best player in the Football League.
The R’s have not had the best season, going through another manager as their hopes for promotion soon dwindled and they ended up in mid-table for the majority of the season. But it could have been far worse if it was not for their keeper Smithies. He put in plenty of starring performances throughout the year and his key saves saved the West London side a lot of points and possibly even stopped them being involved in the battle against relegation.
Despite not having the best team in front of him, Smithies was able to claim seven clean sheets but even in games where he did end up conceding one, he put in performances where plenty of other goalkeepers would have ended up conceding more. These great performances will have come as a great relief for Smithies though as he had to spend plenty of time on the bench waiting for this opportunity before finally becoming the number one when Rob Green was unable to play anymore games without activated a clause in his contract which extended it for a year.
Smithies will be hoping that things in front of him can improve so QPR can finally make a push for promotion.
