Blackburn Rovers’ Anthony Stokes is set to leave the club and rejoin Scottish side Hibernian according to a report from The Scottish Sun.
The Lancashire club were relegated to Sky Bet League One on the final day of the season despite claiming an impressive 3-1 win against Brentford, with other results going against them on the day. And with the team dropping a division, the usual exodus is set to start soon as players not willing to play in the third tier of English football as well as those Blackburn can no longer afford all leave the club.
And one of the players who is set to leave in the next few weeks is Stokes, just one year after joining the club. He signed a three-year contract last year and it was hoped he would be able to contribute the goals that they lacked ever since Jordan Rhodes left in the last January transfer window. However that was not the case after scoring just four goals in a pitiful 14 appearances this season. He ended up being dropped from the first team in the end of season run in with head coach Tony Mowbray saying he was out due to a number of personal issues.
But Stokes looks like he is going to land on his feet and return to Hibernian for the third time in his career. He is a hero for the Edinburgh based team after scoring a double in the Scottish FA Cup Final against Rangers last year, winning them the trophy. And now it looks like he is going to be welcomed back to club with open arms after his ill-fated spell with Blackburn.
