Retained List: Long-serving player among four departures at Scunthorpe

Sky Bet League One play-off semi-finalists Scunthorpe United have today become the latest club to reveal their retained list. Manager Graham Alexander has decided that four players won’t be offered extensions and therefore depart Glanford Park.

Also, the Scunthorpe boss has decided to offer contracts to three first-team players, with a further three remaining after options were taken to exist their existing deals by another year. Discussions continue with two more players over new contracts as well.

The highest profile name to depart is that of centre back David Mirfin. The 32-year-old therefore ends his third spell with the club after making a total of 37 appearances last season. He made a total of 288 appearances for the Iron and is certainly a big favourite among the Scunny faithful. There have been calls from fans to give the player a testimonial.

Gibraltar international defender Scott Wiseman is also free to find himself a new club. He has spent the last two seasons at Glanford Park, starting 38 league matches during that time, although not too many of those came over the past season. Goalkeeper Joe Anyon appeared in both play-off semi-final clashes with Millwall but the second choice keeper has been told he is no longer needed by the Lincolnshire club. Former Rangers youngster Jamie Ness completes the list of departures from the club. He too was involved in both play-off clashes, taking his season appearance tally to 17, failing to score in any of those.

Key midfielders Neal Bishop and Stephen Dawson have been offered extended terms by Alexander. Both were regular starters at the heart of the midfield, so Scunthorpe will be keen on retaining the pair. Young striker Kyle Wootton, who spent time out on loan at Cheltenham Town, has also been offered an extension. Talks continue with first choice keeper Luke Daniels and also regular substitute Craig Davies. Youngsters Levi Sutton, Jack Dyche and Noel Burdett will be staying for another season too.
