Relegated Rotherham United have been busy making plans ahead of their return to Sky Bet League One next season. Manager Paul Warne has issued his retained list, which has seen a total of eight players told that they are free to leave the club.

An option has been taken to extend the deal of a key player as well, whilst three existing squad players have been offered extensions. Another to be offered a deal includes a loan player who impressed in a temporary stint, and is someone Warne is keen to keep on board.

Focusing on the departures first and foremost. Lee Camp is a shock departure in the sense that he began the season as first choice and only injury saw him come out of the side and fail to appear again. However he clearly believes he can play at a higher level, and Cardiff City are said to be keen on signing him up. Defenders Stephen Kelly and Kelvin Wilson possess plenty of experience but injury and fitness meant that neither were able to play a major part over the past season. Joel Ekstrand only joined late on short term and he too has had his injury problems too. Tom Thorpe and Chris Dawson have been out of favour and each are free to seek pastures new. Youngsters Fabian Bailey and Tom Rose also leave too.

Key defenders Joe Mattock and Richard Wood are in the plans of Warne and each have been offered extended terms. Both also contain a lot of experience and would play a big role in any anticipated promotion push next season. Richie Smallwood, who has experience of League One, is another to be offered a new contract. Tom Adeyemi impressed whilst on loan from Cardiff City, and although he has returned to his parent club, he is likely to be sold and Warne hopes he’ll now join permanently. An offer has been made to Cardiff, managed by ex-Rotherham boss Neil Warnock. Star striker and key man Danny Ward has seen a one-year option triggered on his existing deal. Jonson Clarke-Harris, another striker, extended his contract earlier this week.
