Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 2nd: David Wagner (Huddersfield Town)

Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner has been voted by you as the 2nd best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Wagner is the 2nd best manager in the Football League.

Wagner took charge of Huddersfield midway through last season, coming with a big reputation after previously working with the now Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp. They did show plenty of promise in that year, but even with that not many expected them to do much this season, with some predictions even tipping them for relegation!

However they would go on to make a push for promotion and show that they are serious contenders in the Sky Bet Championship. Their style of play, which Wagner brought with him from Borussia Dortmund, was a huge success in this league and the Terriers spent the majority of the season in the top six. There was even some thought that they might be able to get into the automatic promotion places, though that didn’t end up happening.

Huddersfield’s season hasn’t ended yet as Wagner looks to get them promoted to the Premier League. They are set to face Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday over two legs in the next week as part of the play-offs, with a win meaning they go to Wembley to contest the play-off final. Then they could finally make it into the top tier of English football.
