Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal has been voted by you as the 8th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best manager and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered that you think Carvalhal is the 8th best manager in the Football League.

This was going to be a very different year for Carvalhal as he would have the burden of expectation on his shoulders. Last year, when he guided the Owls to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, he was an unknown and even with the investment being put into the club, not many people expected them to make a push for promotion. This year though, with them getting so close the year before and even more money being piled in, he was expected to lead them to the promised land.

This amount of expectation did threaten to doom Wednesday’s season at some points, even with the club doing broadly the same as the year before some fans did want Carvalhal sacked, but they managed to get through all of this and once again get a place in the play-offs and so another shot to try and end their 17 year exile from the Premier League.

Of course this means that Wednesday’s season is not over yet and they have two games against Huddersfield Town during next week to decide whether they will be making a return to Wembley at the end of May.
