Plymouth Argyle have celebrated promotion into Sky Bet League Two after ending the season in the top three. However all focus now goes on at least retaining their spot in the third-tier as the retained list has today been issued.

A total of 13 players, nine being from the first-team, have been told that their services are no longer required at Plymouth. Also, seven more have extended their deals after options were triggered in their existing deals to stay for another year. Three more players have been offered extensions in the hope that they’ll stay on board as well.

The three to be offered deals are Graham Carey, Mark McCallum and Gary Sawyer. Carey featured in every single league game of their promotion campaign, scoring 14 goals in the process. He is definitely a key player and someone Adams is desperate to keep. Sub keeper McCallum will be needed to act as cover to Luke McCormick, whilst Sawyer provides great experience and a handy defensive option.

A total of seven will be staying after options were triggered. Most of these could be described as very important players, so it is excellent news for the club. Keeping Sonny Bradley, David Fox, Jake Jervis, Yann Songo’o and Oscar Threlkeld is particularly pleasing. Also, Gary Miller and Jakub Sokolik are types that will have a role to play next season at a higher level as well.

Now, focusing on those who are departing. A few of these featured quite a lot last season, most notably Jordan Slew, Ryan Donaldson, Nauris Bulvitis, Connor Smith and Jimmy Spencer. All are free to find themselves new clubs. Ryan Brunt hasn’t kicked a ball in anger for about a year after injuring the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The remainder of those to leave can be best described as fringe players at best. Vincent Dorel, David Ijaha, Ryan Lane, Billy Palfrey, Louis Rooney, Jack Calver and Ben Steer.

Offered extensions: Graham Carey, Mark McCallum & Gary Sawyer

Option taken to extend contract: Sonny Bradley, David Fox, Jake Jervis, Gary Miller, Jakub Sokolik, Yann Songo’o & Oscar Threlkeld.

Released: Ryan Brunt, Nauris Bulvitis, Jack Calver, Ryan Donaldson, Vincent Dorel, David Ijaha, Ryan Lane, Billy Palfrey, Louis Rooney, Jordan Slew, Connor Smith, Jimmy Spencer & Ben Steer.
