Charlton Athletic and Preston North End are interested in signing Cork City’s and Republic of Ireland star, Sean Maguire.

Football League duo, Charlton and Preston are considering to table an offer for Cork City’s Sean Maguire, who sit at the summit of the League of Ireland Premier Division, according to Kent Live.

The Luton-born, 23-year-old’s main role is as a centre-forward but can play as a secondary striker sitting behind the centre-forward, or as a right-sided winger.

This season so far (they’ve played 12 games to date), the Irish forward has scored eight goals in ten appearances for Cork City, playing a total of 822 minutes in the league, and scoring in every 103 minutes on average. In the Europa League qualifiers, Maguire has scored in every other game he has played, scoring three in six.

Last season, Maguire scored an impressive 29 goals across all competitions for the top Irish side.

Since March 2015 when the striker made his debut for the Republic of Ireland U21s, Maguire has made 13 appearances, scoring three goals on the international stage.

Before joining Cork City, Maguire has had stints at Dundalk, Accrington Stanley (loan), and West Ham United.

It is understood that while Preston North End are still considering whether or not he will be the player they need to help mount a potential top six finish in the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship campaign. Karl Robinson is keener and believes the upcoming striker would be able to perform at a League One level and likelier to table an offer to move Maguire to the capital.

The Addicks are heading to Portamanock for pre-season fitness training which could provide a window of opportunity for Robinson to meet the 23-year-old and assess his interest in playing in a Charlton shirt come August.
