Charlton, Coventry and Oxford United interested in signing Yeovil Town defender

Sky Bet League One sides, Charlton Athletic, Oxford United, and Bristol Rovers have joined relegated Coventry City in a fight to sign Yeovil Town’s Alex Lacey.

A duo of Sky Bet League One sides including Charlton Athletic and Oxford United have joined the race with relegated Coventry City to sign Alex Lacey on a free transfer in the summer window, according to Somerset Live, and League One side Bristol Rovers are allegedly keeping tabs on the player as well according to HITC Sport.

Yeovil Town centre-back Lacey has been one of Darren Way’s top performers all season, commanding and contributing to a solid back line, whose performance has definitely not gone unnoticed.

The 23-year-old made almost 50 appearances for the west country club last season, and since joining the Glovers in 2015 has made over 70 appearances in front of the Huish Park faithful. Lacey’s contract runs out in the summer which means he could move on a free transfer deal.

On the 29th April when Yeovil Town was conducting their yearly player award ceremony, there were eight awards up for grabs, and the young centre-back won three of those, including:

  • The Green and White Supporters’ Club Player of the Year
  • Community Sports Trust Player of the Year
  • Disabled Supporters’ Association Player of the Year

Yeovil is keen to get the defender to sign another contract but with brewing and growing interest from League One sides, which will allow Lacey to play at a higher level, in larger stadiums, with a significantly increased wage the chances are that the Glovers will have to find a replacement in the summer transfer window.
