Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker has said that he is extremely gutted for Garry Monk and his backroom staff at Elland Road.

The Whites were in the Play-Off places for approximately six months, before fading away towards the end of the season, and ultimately falling short, finishing seventh in the Sky Bet Championship.

There’s no doubt that Leeds have over-performed in their first season under Garry Monk’s leadership, but many Whites fans remain disappointed that the club failed to hold onto a spot in the Play-Offs.

Speaking to Radio Yorkshire, the former Leeds United defender said: “I am just gutted for the lads, as I know how much work they have put in throughout the season, especially for Garry and the rest of his staff.”

“To fall at the final hurdle is devastating, but unfortunately the league table does not lie, and over the course of the season you ultimately finish where you deserve to.”

But it was clear that Parker was full of admiration for the work that Monk and the rest of the staff have done during their first season at the club.

The Leeds United boss is expected to sit down with members of the boardroom over the coming days, as a deal is yet to be agreed, and Monk’s future remains slightly up in the air.
