Crewe Alexandra have issued their retained list, which has resulted in seven players being told that they are free to leave the club. Also, six more remain in the thoughts of manager David Artell and have been offered contract extensions to remain at Gresty Road.

Following the end of a hard Sky Bet League Two campaign, Crewe finished in mid-table, fifteen points off the final play-off place and nine points ahead of the relegation spots. Next season will be a case of them trying to break into the top half and contest those play-off positions if possible.

Oliver Turton, who started 45 of the 46 league games last season and has been offered a new deal, in addition to defenders Jon Guthrie and George Ray. These are players who could have a big role to play should they agree to stay on. Dave Richards, Perry Ng and Oliver Finney didn’t feature as much as the previous trio did last season, but they are still players who the management are keen to keep on the books.

Four players who enjoyed a fair amount of playing time last season headline those that are to leave the club. Ex-Cardiff City central defender Ben Nugent is free to leave, along with midfielder Billy Bingham, who started over half of their league matches. The same can be said of former Portsmouth midfielder Danny Hollands, who has only been at Gresty Road for one season. Harry Davis, son of former manager Steve, is the final ‘big name’ to be told he can go. Callum Saunders, Andy Dawber and Marcus Poscha complete those that will depart.

Released: Ben Nugent, Billy Bingham, Danny Hollands, Harry Davis, Callum Saunders, Marcus Poscha & Andy Dawber.

Offered contracts: George Ray, Jon Guthrie, Oliver Turton, Perry Ng, Oliver Finney & Dave Richards.
