Ipswich Town are reportedly the favourites to sign Cardiff midfielder Tom Adeyemi this summer, according to the Sudbury Mercury.

The 25-year-old playmaker, who has struggled for game time at Cardiff, spent last season on loan at relegated Rotherham United, and scored against the Suffolk club in their shock 1-0 defeat at the New York Stadium last month.

Town are said to be in pole position to land the player’s signature, ahead of local rivals Norwich City, who are also said to be keen on re-signing their former man.

Rotherham manager Paul Warne has said that he would like to keep hold of Adeyemi if possible, but knows that this will be unlikely should a Championship club go in for him.

“It would be nice if I could keep Tom. I’m a realist. I know the situation he’s in.

“But I think we would have a good chance to keep him. He wants to play here because he likes it here and he’s doing well here.”

“I spoke to Tom jokingly and said if he keeps scoring it’s going to add to his value – I told him £50 a week!”

The player began his career with hometown club Norwich, and made eleven first-team appearances for the Canaries before leaving to join Birmingham City in 2013.

He played most of the Blues’ first-team games during his first season with the club, but was sold to Cardiff City the following year.

He has also spent time on loan at Bradford City, Oldham Athletic, Brentford and Leeds United during his career.
