Following their 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic on Sundae, the Leeds United players made a surprise stop for ice cream before boarding the club coach.
Four players, including top-goalscorer Chris Wood and Luke Ayling, apparently took on the responsibility of buying for the entire team from the van just outside Wigan’s stadium. The players chatted and posed for photos with fans as they waited.
Leeds have had a very solid first season under manager Garry Monk but just missed out on a play-off place after a disappointing finish to the campaign. After spending most of the season in the play-off positions, Leeds failed to win in their final four games and their promotion hopes melted away.
This flake-y end to the season came as a surprise to most Leeds fans, who will be hoping that the club can go one better and cone-quer the Championship next season. An integral part of improving next season however, will be securing the long-term future of manager Garry Monk.
Leeds have been through several managers in the past few seasons but giving a manager time to get his own team together seems like it might be the recipe to success.
On top of signing Monk to a longer deal, Leeds will also want to make sure that key players like Chris Wood don’t dessert them this summer. If Leeds are to continue to improve, they need to keep their squad together. They could also do with scooping up Kyle Bartley on a permanent deal, after he impressed this season whilst on loan from Swansea.
Whilst it has been a successful season for Leeds, fans won’t want to milk it too much. With the right decisions and signings over the summer, there is no reason why Leeds can’t reach the play-offs next season.
