Derby County, Leeds United and Reading scouts watching Portuguese defender

Derby County, Leeds United and Reading have all got scouts watching Vitoria Setubal’s Frederico Venancio according to a report from Page 15 of the Goals pull out included in May 8th’s edition of The Sun on Sunday.

The 24-year-old defender has been highly rated for a while and is already the captain of the Primeira Liga side. This has led to plenty of interest and Greek side Olympiakos were close to completing a deal for him, though Venancio turned that down because he was hoping he could get a move to an English side. And it seems like that might happen as three Sky Bet Championship sides have been watching him closely over the last few weeks.

This report suggests that Derby, Leeds and Reading have all had their scouts out in Portugal watching the player in his last few games. It is unknown whether any of these teams will try to follow up their interest during the summer but it is likely that they see him as a player that could get even better over the next few years because he is still fairly young.

All three teams will definitely be in the market for a centre-back during the summer. Both Leeds and Reading have had loan defenders star in their back four this season with Kyle Bartley and Reece Oxford respectively set to return to their parent clubs after successful spells with their teams this year. It has also been reported that Derby are on the look out for a new defender and have already been linked with a move for Bristol City’s Aden Flint.
