Oxford United head coach Michael Appleton has been voted by you as the 17th best manager in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Appleton is the 17th best manager in the Football League.
It was always going to be tough for Appleton to match what he did last year when he was able to get Oxford to finish 2nd in Sky Bet League Two, therefore getting promoted. And while most teams would be happy to stay in the league just one year after getting promoted, Oxford ended up pushing forward and were challenging for a spot in the Sky Bet League One play-offs to try and get a double promotion.
Of course Oxford would not get a spot in the play-offs, but they certainly were close. They ended up finishing 8th in League One and were just four points off 6th placed Millwall. While it was probably disappointing to be so close to get into the end of season lottery and not get in, it was a huge achievement to be involved in the battle to begin with and it will certainly make the fans optimistic for next season.
Now though Appleton working on his team for next season so they can go one better. They’ll believe that if they got so close this year, just a few improvements will see them make it into the play-offs next year.
