Championship Weekend Preview

Nottingham Forest v Brighton

If Forest had managed a victory last weekend this game could have seen two sides face off who both had a chance of making the top six, instead it is just the visitors who will want a win to pressurise Reading in the other televised game.

Forest’s season came crashing down before their eyes at Bournemouth last weekend. Played off the park by the Cherries, the side looked broken and despondent trudged back to the dressing room knowing that any chance of rescuing their play-off aspirations was over. Stuart Pearce has got a tough job on his hands if he is going to turn this squad of individuals into a team that can push for promotion next season, the obvious aim amongst the fans and board. As Burnley have shown this season, team harmony is key to success in this division and that has been lacking at Forest in the second half of the season. They will always put up a fight, but if things do not go there way early on expect heads to drop.

2964357Brighton travel up to Nottingham in the knowledge that even a victory may not be enough to secure 6th, but do not expect them to ease off at all. With Reading’s indifferent form over the past couple of months there is no guarantee that they will see off Burnley with any confidence. Whilst the Royal’s stuttered, Brighton stepped up their charge with a 7 game unbeaten run of 3 wins and 4 draws. Oscar Garcia will be masterminding a strategy to take all 3 points from the City Ground and key to his plan will be scoring the first goal. With Ashley Barnes departure in January the goalscoring responsibilities have fallen mostly to Leo Ulloa. The Argentine has netted 13 Championship goals this season and is this game’s key man.
