Championship Weekend Preview

Millwall v Bournemouth

Millwall had a truly outstanding April which has set them up to play Championship football next season. The Lions still need a win to be guaranteed safety although a point is likely to be enough as they face a Bournemouth side that has exceeded everyone’s expectations.

david-fordeMillwall have pulled the proverbial cat out of the bag with their run of form throughout April. A 7 game run of 3 wins and 4 draws has rescued the season just before it turned ugly, however their is still some work to be done. With their poor goal difference a bad defeat on the final day could see the Lions relegated if Doncaster manage a draw and Birmingham a win. Therefore, Ian Holloway will want to keep things in their own hands by going out and taking all 3 points at the New Den. Throughout their recent run, keeper David Forde has been at his best to keep Millwall in game’s at QPR and at home to Watford. The Irishman will need to be on top of his game again and is this game’s key man.

Bournemouth have been superb over the last couple of months. Their free-flowing brand of exciting football has been noted by pundits, applauded by fans and most importantly getting results. A mini-blip over Easter ended any hopes of sneaking into the play-offs, but a top 10 finish for the Cherries would be an outstanding effort from their first season back in the second tier in over 20 years. As Bournemouth continue to impress Eddie Howe’s stock continues to rise with it and talks of him being a Premier League regular in the dugout are becoming far more prominent in discussions. The off season could see hawks circle the Dorset outfit to prize away their key players, but for now attention will be on ending the season in style at the New Den.
