According to Kent Live, Ricky Holmes has been linked with a move to rejoin his former manager, in the Sky Bet Championship next season. However, is there any truth to the link and rumour?
In the summer of 2016, Ricky Holmes joined Charlton Athletic from Northampton Town on a two-year deal estimated at £120,000.
The rumour of Holmes making a possible move has been brewing and growing around Sheffield United and Charlton Athletic forums for a while, mainly due to the fact that he used to play under Chris Wilder when they were part of Northampton in the 2015/16 season which won Sky Bet League Two.
Also, the recent news of Holmes demanding Charlton to offer him a new contract with an increase in wages to match the top earners at the club has also added weight to the Addicks possibly being forced to let him go.
At the time of Holmes signing for Charlton, it was reported that Chris Wilder had approached his former star at Northampton Town, but he rejected the successful manager, because he was keen to move down south, and had been given an offer he could not refuse.
While it is possible that Holmes has been tempted to move to Yorkshire after they romped the league and secured Sky Bet Championship football, but is that enough for him to make the move?
Holmes won two Player of the Year awards and finished the season as the top scorer at the club, and despite being disappointed with not mounting a playoff contention at the end of his first season with the Addicks, he is aware of Robinson’s ambition to rebuild and bring in players which are his, and fit his style of play. There is an argument to be made which supports that members of the squad are ‘Russell Slade men’ so to speak.
The respected South London Press, which has built up a close connection with Charlton Athletic over the years as a local paper, and now has a presence online has not heard of the link despite being aware of Robinson’s planned outgoings and incomings in the transfer window.
@ValleyFloydFred Haven't heard them in connection with him.

Richard Cawley who is the Sports Editor for the South London Press has not heard of the link despite long being part of the paper closest to the club. Therefore, the rumours in Ricky Holmes making a move to Sheffield United raises some questions in terms of the likeliness of the rumour and link.
However, make no mistake that if Robinson and the club are unable to match his contract demands to match other players at Charlton, the manager could be forced to let him go.
The speculation of the summer transfer window has truly begun!
