Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 20th: Paul Cook (Portsmouth)

Portsmouth head coach Paul Cook has been voted by you as the 20th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Cook is the 20th best manager in the Football League.

This comes after an amazing year where he finally got Portsmouth promoted from Sky Bet League Two. Pompey have become infamous for dropping down the divisions follow their numerous financial issues and over the last few years they have been trying to start their revival by getting out of League Two. Cook came into the club last year and did get close last year when they qualified for the play-offs after getting 6th placed, but missed out after being beaten by rivals Plymouth Argyle in the semi-finals.

But this year Portsmouth finally did it and got promoted to Sky Bet League One, finally showing that they are back and ready to get back to where they once were. They did this in the best of ways as well, winning the League Two title on a tense final day of the season. This is the second time Cook has been able to lift the League Two trophy, after doing the same for previous club Chesterfield in the 2012/13 season.

Now though Cook will start looking to the future after claiming promotion. Portsmouth will be wanting to get a double promotion so they can get back to the Sky Bet Championship after years away due to their financial problems.
