According to GetWestLondon, Brentford have triggered an extension on Jota’s contract, which will see the Spaniard stay at the club for at least another year.

The 25-year-old has attracted attention from a number of Premier League clubs, including Swansea and Burnley.

The London club always had the option to extend his contract, but interest from Premier League clubs left fans fearing that the may cash in on the talented winger.

However, the official club Snapchat earlier revealed that a trigger in Jota’s contract had been extended, and that he would remain at the club until 2018.

Jota returned to Brentford on December 31, after spending nearly a year on loan at Spanish side Eibar.

His second debut for the club came against National League side Eastleigh in the FA Cup.

Since this appearance, he has scored 12 times, as well as assisting five for his team mates.

He’s been invaluable in helping Brentford to a tenth place finish in the Sky Bet Championship, but now it has been confirmed that Jota will be remaining, Bees fans are optimistic of pushing on and achieving bigger and better things next season.

It is believed that Jota may still sign a new deal at Griffin Park, as the aforementioned deal only lasts until 2018, and Brentford fans certainly hope this is the case.

Brentford closed out their Sky Bet Championship season on Sunday 7 May, with a disappointing home defeat against Blackburn Rovers, who got relegated despite this result.
