Harry Redknapp hails incredible feeling after saving Birmingham City from relegation

Birmingham City head coach Harry Redknapp has told the Nottingham Post that it is an incredible feeling to save the club from relegation.

Redknapp was only brought in to be the head coach of Birmingham last month when Gianfranco Zola was sacked and was given one simple task, keep the Blues in the Sky Bet Championship. It would however come down to the final day as Birmingham hoped to beat Birmingham City to secure safety, with Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest also hoping to stave off the drop.

And Redknapp can now breathe a sigh of relief after he was able to keep Birmingham up. Every team hoping to stay up ended up winning meaning the Blues couldn’t afford to slip up, and luckily they didn’t. Thanks to a great goal from Che Adams, Birmingham were able to get a win and condemn Blackburn to life in Sky Bet League One.

And Redknapp was obviously delighted at not getting relegated, saying: “It was very tense, I was scared, I didn’t even look at my watch. I can’t tell you, there is not a better feeling in the world when the referee put the whistle to his mouth and blew it.”

“It was an incredible feeling, to know we’ve done it, was great.”

“They’re a good side and to come here on the back of their recent results and pick up the win was a fantastic result,”

“I don’t feel anything like a 70-year-old.”

“It’s fantastic, it’s what it’s all about. To stay up, we’ve made their day. These are special days and this is a great day.”
