Newcastle United aim to beat Tottenham Hotspur to signing of Hull City defender

Newcastle United are looking to beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of Hull City’s Harry Maguire according to a report from The Sun.

Spurs have had another great season and still have a chance of getting the Premier League title, though their recent loss to London rivals West Ham United seem to have severely damaged their chances of that. Even though this year hasn’t finished though, they are already looking to next season and signing the players they need to make sure they do get the title next year. And their head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes they need to sign new defenders to make sure they remain competitive in the title race.

The player they have been looking at is Maguire, who currently players for Tottenham’s fellow Premier League side Hull City. He has been impressive for the Tigers this season but with the Humberside club staring relegation in the face, they are currently 18th in the Premier League, he has been preparing for a move away so he can continue playing in the top tier of English football.

But while Tottenham are the favourites to sign Maguire should he become available, Newcastle are prepared to move quick to make sure they sign the former Sheffield United man. Their season is now over after they claimed the Sky Bet Championship title following their 3-0 win over Barnsley, meaning they can get a head start on talks with Maguire. They believe that if they move quickly enough, Newcastle will be able to beat Tottenham to the signing of Maguire.
