Luke Chambers has signed a new two-year deal with Ipswich Town, extending his time at Portman Road until 2019.

The Blues’ boss, Mick McCarthy spoke out in his preview against Nottingham Forest about the skipper: “I am delighted Chambo has signed. It’s good news for him and for the Club,”

Chambers had been a target for Nottingham Forest, his former club and was approached on deadline day in January; with a few months left of his contract. They aimed to take on the defender on a free transfer, but The Blues rejected the approach.

“We understood his position but at the time we were being dragged into a relegation battle and didn’t know what division we would be in next season.”

“He loves the place but his contract was running out and someone was offering him a two-year deal.”

The Skipper has led and appeared in every game this season for the club and has scored a total of four goals. Overall, he has played 239 games, scored 14 and assisted 12 for Ipswich.

He spoke about his new deal with the club saying: “I never envisaged leaving Ipswich Town and I’m pleased to get things sorted now. I’m looking forward to the future now.”

Last game of the season: Nottingham Forest

Tom Lawrence has been gone back to Leicester City after an ankle injury puts him out of the squad for the final game. Tommy Smith and Teddy Bishop are also out with a calf and hamstring injury respectively. The Blues travel to City Ground, a game which results in whether The Reds stay in the Championship or face League One next season.
