Newcastle United flop gives bizarre reason for failing in England

Florian Thauvin has been impressing back at Marseille, but he endured a torrid season in the Premier League with Newcastle.

He’s scored 15 goals this season, as well as setting up 10 for his team mates. His incredible form even saw him earn a recall to the France squad for the most recent international break.

The Frenchman is still currently on the books at Newcastle United, but will leave the club permanently at the start of July.

He resigned for Marseille on a loan deal, but the Ligue 1 club have already met the agreements of his loan deal, which will see him join them on a permanent basis.

Thauvin took part in a Q&A on Marseille’s facebook page, and was quizzed about his time in the North East of England.

One of the excuses he gave for his poor performances in the Premier League last term was absolutely bizarre.

He said: “My Time at Newcastle was a very difficult time for me. It was not easy. I was far from everything and everyone. And England is very different. Different football, different culture. And to top that off, the food isn’t even food. We eat so well in France.”

It may seem odd, but it was clear that Thauvin wasn’t himself during his time in England.

He scored just one goal, and picked up two assists, all of which came in the EFL Cup.

He finished the Q&A by discussing his move back to Marseille.

He said:” The experience at Newcastle made me grow as a man and a football. I gained experience. I looked at myself, and returning to Marseille was a choice made with my heart.”
