Portsmouth set to face Championship side in pre-season friendly

Portsmouth have announced that they will be facing Cardiff City in a pre-season friendly according to a report from the Portsmouth News.

Pompey are preparing for life in Sky Bet League One after finally getting promoted this year and are starting to get their pre-season schedule ready for that. They have already got a tour arranged as they will be travelling to Ireland and Portugal during the summer but now they have their first couple of friendlies ready.

The first big friendly which will catch the attention is their match against Cardiff, a rematch of the 2008 FA Cup final that they won. In one unusual quirk though, they will be facing the Bluebirds away from home at the Cardiff City Stadium. Usually, the higher league team would travel to the one lower down the league ladder as that would be better for ticket receipts, though the idea of facing a team they once took on at Wembley may be enough to shift tickets. They have however faced each other a few times since then with their last game being a 3-2 win for Cardiff with Kenny Miller, Mark Hudson and Craig Conway getting on the score sheet. This game will take place on July 28th.

This isn’t the only friendly that Portsmouth have got organised for the summer. They have also announced that they will be facing non-league side Salisbury City in a game that will take place on July 1st. A Portsmouth XI took on Salisbury in 2012 with the non-league side winning 2-1.
