Burnley keeper on Magpies boss Benitez’s radar

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is considering a summer move for Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton according to The Sun.

The 31-year-old Chester born keeper has excelled in the top flight with The Clarets this season with Sean Dyche’s side having enjoyed a comfortable campaign.

It has been reported that the player is interesting both Newcastle United and Crystal Palace with Magpies boss Benitez set to offer around £15 million for Heaton’s services as the Spaniard looks to bolster his squad ahead of the Tyneside club’s return to the Premier League.

Newcastle United are not short in the goalkeeping department however it is unclear whether on loan AZ Alkmaar keeper Tim Krul will feature for The Magpies again upon his return to St James’ Park in the summer and boss Benitez is thought to be considering all options with Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford also believed to be on the club’s wanted list.

Burnley stopper Heaton is a former Manchester United apprentice although the player never made a senior appearance at Old Trafford. The Red Devils loaned the keeper out to a number of clubs before Heaton joined Cardiff City on a permanent deal in summer 2010 after his contract with United expired.

Heaton made 40 appearances in two seasons in South Wales while he was a League Cup runner-up with The Bluebirds. A short stint at Bristol City followed before spending four years with Burnley where he has won two promotions.
