Newcastle United linked with swoop for former Barcelona ‘starlet’

According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle United have been linked with former Barcelona youngster Sandro Ramirez, currently plying his trade at La Liga side Malaga.

21-year-old Ramirez came up through the famed La Masia youth academy at the Nou Camp, after signing for the world football giants from the Las Palmas youth set-up.

His time at the Catalan giants saw him make 61 appearances for the B side (15 goals) and 32 appearances for the full Barcelona side (7 goals), before moving to Malaga on a free transfer in July 2016.

Since his move, Ramirez has found his groove in the La Liga side, making 27 appearances this season, scoring 13 goals in the process. This form is obviously what has alerted Newcastle, especially the four goals in his last three games.

The Chronicle Live say that the former Nou Camp hitman “has a £5.1 million release clause in his contract with Malaga,” a fee that is not likely to trouble Newcastle’s coffers too much with the cash-laden Premier League ahead of them.

However, the Chronicle Live also have a warning for the Magpies, that they are not alone in their interest for the young striker – that other teams are also watching from the sidelines.

Amongst the sides said to also be eyeing up the Malaga striker are Premier League clubs Stoke City, Tottenham Hotspurs and Southampton. Ramirez’s form has also attracted domestic interest back in Spain with La Liga clubs Atletico Madrid, Villareal and Seville also said interested in his signature.
