Leeds United: Kyle Bartley – ‘I expect to return to Swansea’

In an interview with Squawka, Leeds United’s on loan centre back star Kyle Bartley has revealed that he is ‘almost certain’ to return to Swansea when his loan at Leeds expires in the summer.

Bartley was one of six players to join United last summer, and has excelled at the Championship club after being seemingly forgotten by his parent club Swansea. The 25-year-old registered a minimal 16 appearances for the South Welsh club since joining from Arsenal in 2012, and was shipped out on loan to Birmingham City for a brief spell in the 2013/14 season -where he only featured 16 times.

However, after Bartley was reunited with his former Swansea centre back partner Garry Monk at the beginning of the season – who of course is now Leeds manager – Bartley’s performances have been outstanding and he has formed a formidable partnership with fellow fans favourite Pontus Jansson at the heart of the United defence.

It is no coincidence that this partnership has created one of the strongest defences in the league, with the Whites only conceding 43 goals all campaign – as well as keeping 17 clean sheets throughout the season.

In the interview Bartley stated, ‘My loan finishes next week and as far as I’m aware I’ll be going back to Swansea City, my parent club.’ Kyle has also thanked the club saying, ‘I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself at Leeds United this season, it has been a fantastic club for me, the fans, staff and players have all been great.’, seemingly suggesting that this weekends game away at Wigan may be his final outing after appearing to say his final goodbyes.

Bartley signed a new contract at Swansea before his arrival at Leeds, meaning he has one year left on his current deal at the Swans when this season comes to an end.

Kyle has been a vital part of this seasons Leeds team which many have argued has been the best since the departure from the top flight in 2004, and hopefully with the 100% take over of the club from Andrea Radrizzani on the horizon, the club will have second thoughts about letting Bartley return to Wales so easily.
