Everton have become the latest top flight club to show an interest in Newcastle youngster Lewis Gibson.
The Merseyside club join Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Southampton in their pursuit of the youngster, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Scottish Premier League Champions Celtic are also believed to have shown interest in signing the 16 year old defender.
Gibson, who is an England U17 international, has caught the eye of these clubs since making his Newcastle United U18s debut in January last year.
He has also featured for Peter Beardsley’s U23 squad, showing the maturity that he possesses for someone of such a young age.
He made is England U17 debut in August 2016, playing the full ninety minutes as the Young Lions beat Belgium 3-1.
Everton are believed to be interested in adding the defender into their academy, as their director of football Steve Walsh “oversees an aggressive recruitment drive of players aged between 16-18.”
The Liverpool Echo reports that Gibson is “central to his plans.”
The talented teen is currently in Croatia with England U17s, competing in the European Championships.
He joined Newcastle in 2010, and has been with the club ever since.
Newcastle United are yet to comment on the rumours, but it is believed that they are extremely interested in keeping hold of the youngster, as they see him as a star of the future. His contract however does run out at the end of the season.
The versatile defender can play either at left back, or in the centre of defence.
