Former Aston Villa midfielder joins Norwegian club

Former Aston Villa and West Ham United midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has joined Norwegian club IK Start according to BBC Sport.

The recently relegated second-tier outfit unveiled the player on Wednesday in a shock announcement at the Sør Arena.

Southwark born midfielder Reo-Coker was expected to join struggling Spanish outfit Granada who are currently managed by former England defender Tony Adams. The 32-year-old has recently been on trial with the La Liga club and it is understood that the player was to be offered a short-term deal with El Grana.

It now seems that Reo-Coker has snubbed the offer of a deal with the Spanish club and will now resume his career in Norway over a year after leaving Major League Soccer side Montreal Impact.

After beginning his career with Wimbledon, Reo-Coker made his name in English football during spells with West Ham United and Aston Villa. The midfielder joined the latter in an £8.5 million deal in summer 2007 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the club in a four-year spell at Villa Park.

Reo-Coker left Villa to join Bolton Wanderers in 2011 and the player was relegated from the Premier League with the club and spent time with Ipswich Town before moving abroad to feature for the Vancouver Whitecaps, Chivas and Montreal Impact.
