Bartley, Kyle Bartley – should he stay or should he go

Kyle Bartley – should he stay or should he go

Kyle Bartley has been phenomenal for Leeds United this season, and has formed a rock solid partnership at the heart of the defence with the big Swede Pontus Jansson.

However, the Swansea loanee’s future is currently up in the air.

He confirmed on Tuesday that he will return to his parent club after Leeds United’s final game of the season against Wigan on Saturday, but has stated that he wouldn’t say no to a permanent move to Elland Road.

“My loan finishes next week and as far as I’m aware I’ll be going back to Swansea City my parent club, but ultimately I’ll do what I’m told and we’ll see what happens in the next few weeks,” he said

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself at Leeds United this season, it has been a fantastic club for me, the fans, staff and players have all been great.”

Bartley has obviously got a good working relationship with Monk following their time together at Swansea, but with Monk’s future now at risk, it appears nobody knows what will happen with Bartley.

Leeds United need a miracle to reach the Play-Offs this season. A 14 goal swing is needed in the final weekend, and although miracles do happen, this one is highly unlikely.

This has led to thoughts being turned to next season, as the club try to go one better, and mount a significant challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

It looks increasingly likely that Pontus Jansson may move on following his excellent performances this year, but can Leeds really afford to lose their two central defenders this Summer?

Realistically, Bartley does not have a future at Swansea City. The club have a number of Premier League standard centre halves, all of whom are considered to be better than Bartley by Swans boss Paul Clement.

But following the loanee’s performances this season, could another club swoop in and sign the Englishman on a permanent deal?

Many Leeds fans will be hoping that a deal is done quickly to secure the signing of Bartley on a permanent basis.
