EFL investigate Terriers team selection following complaints

The English Football League have reportedly written to Sky Bet Championship club Huddersfield Town to request an explanation for their weakened team selection for Saturday’s fixture against Birmingham City at St Andrews according to BBC Sport.

With The Terriers already assured of a Play Off place, Town boss David Wagner opted to make 10 changes to the side which he fielded against The Blues despite the competition’s rules stating that clubs must select a strong side unless there is a specific reason not to do so.

Huddersfield Town’s much changed starting line-up failed to get a result at St Andrews with struggling Birmingham City grabbing a huge survival boost after goals from Jonathan Grounds and Craig Gardner fired Harry Redknapp’s side to a 2-0 win following striker Che Adams’ dismissal early in the match.

The result leaves fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers disadvantaged going into the final match of the campaign and it has been reported that officials of both clubs were less than impressed with Huddersfield Town for breaking league rules.

Should the English Football League determine that The Terriers did field an under-strength side without sufficient reason to do so it is likely that the club will be issued with a fine and warned about their future conduct.
