Peterborough United’s 2016/17 season: stand out moments

It’s been another disappointing season for Peterborough United, who have finished 11th in the Sky Bet League One table.

The season has seen a two place improvement on the last campaign, despite picking up one less point than they did in the 2015/16 season.

It’s fair to say that Posh fans are not particularly happy with how the season has gone, and thoughts have already turned to the 2017/18 campaign.

This being said, there have been some standout moments in Peterborough United’s season.

We take a look at the top five:

5) The FA Cup Third Round trip to Chelsea:

It’s always an amazing opportunity for any lower league side to visit a Premier League team in a cup competition, and Posh have been lucky in the last few seasons to travel to two top flight sides. Last year saw them take West Brom to a penalty shootout in the replay of the Fourth Round, but this season they travelled to Stamford Bridge to play the champions elect. It was a wonderful opportunity for Posh to test themselves against a side who have comprehensively beaten several of the Premier League sides this season. Manchester United lost 4-0 at the Bridge, whilst Everton lost 5-0, so for Posh to come away with a 4-1 loss was a respectable result. Posh did themselves proud in the game, with pundits such as Mark Lawrenson paying them a lot of praise on Match of the day following the game. Scoring at Stamford Bridge is a moment that young Tom Nichols will certainly never forget as well. It was a good day out for the 6000 posh fans that travelled, and got to experience a Premier League stadium, perhaps for the first time. Not to mention, John Terry getting sent off for Chelsea after a foul on Lee Angol certainly got the footballing world laughing.
