Monk

Former Leeds United boss makes comment on Garry Monk situation

Former England international Dennis Wise has told Sky Sports TV Show Goals on Sunday, with the comments being reported by Football Insider, that he believes that Leeds United should not sack Garry Monk.

Leeds have had one of their best seasons for years, with Monk having a superb first year in charge. He surprisingly led to the West Yorkshire side into a promotion battle and looked set to be in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs for the longest time. However they finished the season on a bad run of form which saw them drop out of the top six and they will now not compete in the play-offs.

And it seems that the disappointment about missing out of the play-offs may mean the end for Monk. He could end up being the latest to get the axe from owner Massimo Cellino as reports this money suggested that he wanted someone in from Spain to replace him during the summer. This caused a lot of outrage from both Leeds fans and among the wider football fanbase considering how well Monk has done at Elland Road this year.

But he has now got a backer in Wise, a former Leeds manager who was in charge of the team in between 2006 and 2008. He even said Monk would get them into the Premier League, saying: “Gary will get there with them, all day long,”

“He’s a very intelligent coach. I hope he stays because I think he has done a fantastic job.”

Leeds will finish their season against Wigan Athletic next week.
