Leeds United drew a pulsating Elland Road tie 3-3 yesterday, the result chopping away the faint strands holding up their play-of hopes.

In what was a season that surprised many Leeds fans, fans more used to mid-table mediocrity and scrambling for points, there has been a sense of admiration for the side. As a season it wasn’t perfect, nor were the performances, but all of it combined to give Whites fans a sense of pride in their team.

Whilst the season is effectively over, it also seems that ‘Silly Season’ has started with regard to Elland Road and Leeds United. ‘News’ is coming through, via The Sun’s Alan Nixon, that the Whites are looking to not renew head coach Garry Monk’s contract, a contract due up at the end of June.

The club had said that Monk’s contract would be up for discussion in June, in equal measures placating and infuriating many of the Leeds United fan base. However, Nixon says this isn’t so, with the appointment of new advisor Ivan Bravo who: “will appoint several fellow countrymen in a new backroom team.”

Nixon goes on to say that: “a foreign coach is set to be part of the set-up,” a set-up that will see a Spanish influence arrive at Elland Road in some attempt at creating a sense of Flamenco flair.

With such a huge story, it is obvious that Leeds fans would want to question Nixon on his claims, and that proves to be the case.

Nixon says that Ivan Bravo will have a big say at Elland Road after his appointment to the board.

Nixon also says that, alongside Bravo’s appointment, the cash will be flowing at Elland Road to develop what was, in essence this season, an over-achieving team.

Quite cryptically he also highlights a sense of what might be upcoming for Leeds United fans.

Leeds United fans, being deeply connected with a club that they love, were more than quick to respond on Twitter to the news – not only to Nixon personally but in general as well.

It appears that this is a definite ‘story’ that will play out over time and will only be settled one way or another in the summer and ahead of a new season. Until then it is sure to be a bubbling issue.
