Brighton transfer rumour interest in Liverpool £10m midfielder

Brighton are already promoted to the Premier League, this weekend could see the cherry on top with the Seagulls going up as champions.

Promotion to the top-tier in English football brings with it riches from a huge television deal, but also an increased challenge against sides bristling with world-class talent. To counter this latter challenge, it is often a necessity to spend some money from the former of that cash-rich environment.

According to The Sun, that is exactly what Brighton intend to do and are said by the red top daily to have targeted one player in particular, Liverpool’s Kevin Stewart. The Sun say that “Brighton are eyeing up Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart as their first signing,” the south coast side having “begun their summer transfer plans.”

The Sun took their lead from what they called “reports” – these ‘reports’ emanating from a story in yesterday’s Telegraph. The Telegraph go on to say that Brighton manager Chris Hughton “is interested in the 23-year-old,” going on to say that the Reds have placed a valuation of £10 million on Stewart’s head.

The article goes on to state that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is in no rush to sell the young midfielder, but could be swayed by an offer approaching their valuation of the London-born former Spurs youth player.

Stewart is highly thought of at Anfield and has Premier League experience in Klopp’s first team set-up this season – albeit just 16 minutes across four appearances. He has, however, more extensive appearances in both the FA and EFL Cups, making five appearances across both competitions. Alongside that, Stewart has also made 10 Premier League 2 appearances (one goal – one assist) this season, his goal coming against Spurs in early February.

Table-topping Brighton play lowly Bristol City on Saturday knowing full well that a win will bring them the glory of going up from the Sky Bet Championship as title winners.
