Will Grigg injury a massive blow for Wigan Athletic

Wigan Athletic caretaker manager Graham Barrow has told Wigan Today that losing Will Grigg for the rest of the season due to an injury was a huge blow for the side.

Last season, Grigg became famous across the country and not because of all the goals he scored to help the Latics get back into the Sky Bet Championship. A chant for him named ‘Will Grigg’s On Fire’ went viral online and soon became widely sung at Euro 2016, where he was a squad member for Northern Ireland though he never got on the pitch.

It seemed like his form was going to carry on following promotion when he scored six goals in his first ten games, but since netting against Wolves in September he hasn’t hit the back of the net once. And his miserable season was ended recently when he came down with a knee injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

And with Barrow doing his best to keep Wigan in this league, he really does miss having Grigg around. He said: “That was a major blow for me, because I could have seen Will linking up with Nick Powell,”

“He’s always had a good relationship with Michael Jacobs, and Ryan Colclough – and I could never understand him being pushed to one side to be honest.”

“Will, on a day like Saturday, could have got us a goal when we needed one – and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him in the Championship.”
