With the Championship season entering it’s final two fixtures, there is still a fight going on towards the bottom of the table between Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Wigan as to who will join Rotherham in League One next term.

Wigan have the toughest ask out of the three teams – the stipulations for their survival are simple; they must win both of their remaining fixtures (away vs Reading, home vs Leeds) and hope that Blackburn lose both of their games. No other circumstances would see the Latics survive the drop.

The more interesting battle is between Birmingham and Blackburn. With the Blues on 47 points they have a two point lead over Rovers, however if Goal Difference comes into play Blackburn have a +7 advantage in that category.

Birmingham’s next fixture is the toughest that either side have to play – home to 3rd place Huddersfield Town who are looking to cement that position for the ‘easier’ draw in the play-offs. Their final game of the season comes away at 17th placed Bristol City who have nothing to play for.

As for Blackburn, their last game at Ewood Park this season comes against 12th placed Aston Villa, which is then followed by an away trip to Brentford who will be looking to secure their top half finish.

Many bookies have Rovers are the favourites to go down with bet365 offering 1.40 on them playing in League One next season, while Birmingham come in surprisingly high at 3.25.

If the Blues lose to Huddersfield, which is very likely, and Blackburn pick up all three points vs Villa, the last day of the season will be very interesting indeed.

We’ll definitely be having a dabble on the outcome of this battle, and if you fancy one too you can use a Get Lucky code for bonuses when signing up to various bookies.
