Aston Villa joint-favourites for 23-goal striker – Premier League interest

Aston Villa already have a host of talented attackers on the books at Villa Park, and according to bookmakers BetVictor they are joint-favourites for yet another.

Jonathan Kodjia, with 19 goals and one assist leads this potent strike force but the Villans also have Scott Hogan, who scored 14 for Brentford this season, on the books as well as Ross McCormack, whose season has been on loan at Nottingham Forest for some of this season.

But BetVictor have installed them as 4/1 joint-favourites with Premier League side Middlesbrough to bring in current Bristol City loanee, from Chelsea, Tammy Abrahams on a permanent deal before September 3 this year.

The Chelsea youngster, who has been on a season-long loan at Ashton Gate, has netted 23 times this season, a season where the Robins have struggled, limping to 17th in the table. However, this lowly position hasn’t stopped the über-talented 19-year-old scoring at such a rate that a gaggle of teams are said after capturing his signature. This pack are headed by Villa and Middlesbrough, but with sides like Leicester City (5/1), Galatasary (6/1) and Newcastle United (8/1) also said to be interested and in the hunt.

Abraham has seven goals in his last ten games but it is his scoring consistency across the season that will have drawn teams to him, a scoring consistency that is helping to underpin a weakly performing side. The battling spirit that Abraham has shown in fighting for the cause will also not have gone amiss on those watching his increasingly mature level of performance.

Aston Villa have had something of an indifferent return to the Championship after their relegation from the Premier League last season, with today’s 1-0 over local rivals Birmingham City lifting them to 12th in the table on 61 points.

Abraham’s consistent goal threat will go some way to giving Villa that potency in front of goal that has been lacking somewhat this season, the Villans’ 46 goals being the fifth-lowest total in the Championship.
