Wolves did not do enough in boring goalless draw

Wolves head coach Paul Lambert has admitted to the Express & Star that his side didn’t do enough in a dull 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

With Wolves no longer having anything to play for and Blackburn fighting for every point possible so they could try to avoid relegation, no one was expecting a classic. But the paying public will have expected more from their sides as they played out a turgid game of football, with Wolves not getting their first shot on target until the 94th minute.

During the game, it was one of the most boring sights you could ever see with fans probably thinking that the texture of the wallpaper in the toilets was probably more interesting than what was played out the pitch. In the end there was no spark with both teams playing out a goalless draw, with Blackburn remaining stuck in the bottom three while Wolves failed to show their fans anything to get excited for next season.

After the game, Lambert admitted the game was very bad and said: “I thought the game was really poor. There was a dearth of chances and we fell below the standard we’ve set for the past 10 games.”

“In February we’d have lost it. (The positives are) we got a clean sheet, the usual stuff, but we never did enough to win the game.”

“I’m never one to rest on anything – you keep carrying on to try and win games.”

“Maybe it needs a bit of freshening up, this team, which I will do for Tuesday. I think we need freshness into the team.”

“We should have been more clinical, we got into good areas but didn’t take responsibility. We tried to look for that pass or make ourselves look good….just pull the trigger.”
