Leeds United: 3 Premier League sides less than 10/1 to sign star striker

Leeds United have had a sparkling season, one where previous recent seasons of mediocrity have had the dullness wiped away from them, replaced with shining hope. One player definitely ‘sparkling’ at Elland Road this season is Chris Wood.

Not only is the big, powerful Kiwi heading the goal tally at Elland Road, the All White’s captain is also the leading scorer in the Sky Bet Championship with, currently, 25 goals to his name and with three games left of this season – not withstanding the possibility of the play-offs should Leeds make it that far.

Leeds have been driven to their current position of seventh largely on the back of Chris Wood’s goals, with Wood scoring against most sides in the league – currently having netted against 19 of the 23 Sky Bet Championship teams.

This display of goal-scoring, as well as the other qualities that Leeds United’s £3 million striker has shown over the course of his 82 appearances (41 goals) for the Whites has, as you would expect, drawn the attention of higher-league opponents with interest mooted from the likes of Everton and Sunderland said monitoring the goal-scoring Kiwi frontman. Some publications have said earlier in the season that Wood has a £15 million price tag on his head.

Interest in Wood is reflected by the odds given by bookmakers BetVictor, with three Premier League sides quoted at odds less than 10/1 to capture his signature before September 3 this year. Leading the pack are Everton at odds of 4/1, the Toffees likely to be looking to supplement their attack in recognition that leading striker Romelu Lukaku is likely to move on from the club in the summer transfer window.

Behind Everton are a couple of sides with longer odds of 8/1 placed against them capturing Wood from Leeds United. This pair of sides, West Ham and Stoke, will be looking to a player like Chris Wood to provide them with a goal threat that will help them better their current positions of 11th (Stoke) and 13th (West Ham) in the Premier League table.

Your views. Where will Chris Wood be come next season? Leeds or elsewhere?
