Rams boss tips keeper for England recall

New Derby County manager Gary Rowett believes that current first choice keeper Scott Carson has the quality to challenge for a recall to the England team according to the Derby Telegraph.

The 31-year-old Whitehaven born stopper has been one of the shining lights in a County side which has failed to reach its full potential once again this season.

With the latter years of his career still ahead of the player, manager Rowett has said that he believes that Carson can still force his way back into the England fold and that the experienced keeper should set that target as his main goal between now and the end of his career.

Carson has played a hugely important role for The Rams this season with the keeper having made 41 appearances for the club in all competitions and keeping an impressive 16 clean sheets. Despite the player’s good form, Carson has not received an England call-up since he last played in the Premier League for West Bromwich Albion in 2011.

The keeper made his England debut in an international friendly against Austria back in November 2007 before going on to make three further appearances for The Three Lions. Carson’s only competitive match for his country was one to forget as England lost 3-2 against Croatia at Wembley in a UEFA Euro 2008 Qualifying match. Many blamed Carson for playing his part some poor goals conceded in the match while manager Steve McClaren was sacked soon after the defeat.
