Spurs to chase signing of Newcastle United flop

Premier League title chasers Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a surprise move for Newcastle United outcast Florian Thauvin according to the Chronicle Live.

The 24-year-old Orleans born winger is enjoying a second loan spell away from St James’ Park at French Ligue 1 outfit Marseille after failing to impress on Tyneside.

The player has over three years remaining on his deal with The Magpies however after impressing back home in France, it is believed that Tottenham Hotspur could make an offer for the midfielder in the summer to end his Newcastle United misery.

The Magpies signed the Frenchman from Marseille in August 2015 for a reported £15 million transfer fee but the player has gone on to make just 16 appearances on Tyneside and was soon loaned back to his former club.

Thauvin has scored 12 goals in 38 appearances for The Olympians this season whilst also providing nine assists and the winger’s improved form could see his career reignited in the English Premier League with a possible move to Spurs.

It is believed that Marseille have an option to make an offer to buy Thauvin from Newcastle United this summer however Tottenham Hotspur’s reported interest could spark a bidding war between the two clubs with The Magpies prepared to sell to the highest bidder.
