Southend United boss Phil Brown has revealed that he is yet to make a decision over the eligibility of Ben Coker.
The former Hull City boss stated in his pre-match press conference, that Ben Coker is going to be a doubt as the Seasiders look to enter the playoffs with a win over Shrewsbury Town.
The left-back had been hopeful of a return to action this weekend but Brown says he will unlikely play a part.
“The only doubt we’ve got for Saturday is Ben Coker,” the Blues boss said.
“He did a full session yesterday and I was hoping he would play a major role on Saturday but he’s still feeling it a bit and I don’t want to put him into a game and then he breaks down.
“He’s a feisty character and a hardy lad and he wants it to be fair to him but it would probably be too much of a risk.
“We’ll assess him today and tomorrow. He’s still with the physios and the fitness coaches. He’s not going to train with the first team today but if he comes through that and trains tomorrow then I still might throw him in. But I don’t know yet.
The Blues travel to Shrewsbury’s Greenhous Meadow on Saturday looking to resurrect themselves following three defeats in their last four Sky Bet League One matches.
Southend will also be looking to take advantage of Millwall’s tough match against Oxford United against their lowly opposition by bettering Millwall’s result and bouncing back into the playoffs.
